Back here in South Australia, the ice in the esky is definately melting fast as temperatures reach record consistant highs since the early 1900's (44- 49 degrees) and Lachie is snowboarding the best powder that Whistler Blackcomb, BC has had in 25 years! Both of us are a world away from the 3 and a half months that we spent paddling throughout one of the best places and incredible environments of AK and BC.
Our paddle would not have been possible without the help of Seaward Kayaks and their enthusiam to get behind us from the start. A huge thank you to Lou who's ease and ability to help out with our logistics and get our boats on the water, was a massive addition. To the Seaward team, thank you for individually crafting truely fine kayaks and knowing the importance of well designed features and easy working components without overkill.
Gary and the team at Pacific Action Sails, your sails assisted us for miles....(I was even able to brush my teeth and make lunch on occasions). A great set up that created keen interest from all that saw them. 5+ knots is an exciting way to travel when you have lots of km to go!
Robbie and Frith of Icebreaker, biggest thanks for getting us into Icebreaker clothing and keeping us comfortable and warm in all environments. More importantly we trusted in the garments to assist in the events of continous bad weather, a huge assess for us. Im your biggest fan! Never leave home without it now ...in fact I managed to wear it to a friends surprise wedding the other day (with my board shorts!!!!!!!).
Valhalla Pure, Squamish - Murray, thanks with all of your help with the lead up, your ideas, energy and interest to get us there and back. The weather and local updates, the stories of your own boating (well launching) experiences kept us chuckling during various times in the trip.
Kim, Greg, Gillian and Steve - Southeast Sea Kayaks, meeting you all was a treat (home grown Aussies) and refreshed our adventure with your hospitality. The Bills, Laurie, Blaize, Ron, Randy, santa claus, maple leaf and all that I have forgotten to mention.......what a varitey of adventures you showed us throughout our expedition. Wow!
Family and friends, well what to say..........are we ready to go through it all again in 2006 and 2008????? Hope so!!! Bev and Trevor, your love for the ocean and boats has filtered through. Sue and James, you have an amazing son - (yeah thats you Lach) and thanks for your support through the 'loose' times. Nico, Larry and Hollie...you kept me motivated and well nutritioned and laughing when the heat was on. Thanks for sharing in everything we did experience. Julia, Nancy, Anette and Todd - without you plotting our route and watching our backs, I would have been less comfortable. Thanks for keeping us safe.
Much love and appreciation to David, Malcolm, Ben, Ella, Kyla and Jim who have influenced and inspired the adventures in life...........
Most importantly Lachlan Harvey, in reflection, my greatest respect, admiration and friendship extends to you. Some tough times, wet days and nights, long hours and heavy loads, cold environments and lots of unknowns....yet you still managed to crack a joke and make me smile. To share in a journey with flexibility and trust created so many memories and stories. I look forward to the next time.......
From here plans are coming together for the next adventure and the next........China, Greenland, Russia - USA and the Chillian Fiords. This trip added a little piece of magic to my soul and for that......it is all worth it! See you on the water. Kim
